EffecTech holds five UKAS accreditations, covering an extensive range of technical capabilities across gas measurement and measurement assurance. Each accreditation reflects the company’s commitment to developing independently recognised capabilities that meet the evolving needs of the energy industry.
ISO 17034 – Reference Materials
- 2020 – EffecTech achieved ISO 17034 accreditation in response to growing international demand for reference material producer certification.
- For mixtures covered by both our ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 17034 scopes, customers receive both a reference material certificate and a calibration certificate, helping them meet differing regulatory and market requirements around the world.
ISO/IEC 17025 – Calibration
- This accreditation covers all calibrations carried out in the EffecTech laboratories and on gas quality measurement systems at customers’ sites, including calibration gases and performance evaluations.
- 1998 – EffecTech achieved accreditation to the NAMAS accreditation standard (later becoming ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation) for its Calibration Laboratory.
- 2005 – the ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation was extended to cover the calibration and validation of gas chromatographs on customer sites by performance evaluation in accordance with ISO 10723.
- 2014 – As demand grew for higher-order reference standards, our ISO/IEC 17025 calibration accreditation was extended to include Primary Reference Gas Mixtures (PRGMs), making EffecTech the only organisation outside a National Metrology Institute to achieve accreditation for this capability.
- 2018 – EffecTech extended its ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation to cover the calibration of analysers used for direct LNG measurement using cryogenically prepared reference liquid mixtures, supporting their growing use in the LNG market.
ISO/IEC 17020 – Inspection
- 2013 – EffecTech achieved ISO/IEC 17020 accreditation in response to growing demand for accredited inspection of gas quality measurement systems. Today, our accredited inspections provide customers with an impartial assessment of the wider measurement process, from sampling through to reporting.
- 2026 – EffecTech extended its ISO/IEC 17020 accreditation to include the inspection of LNG sampling systems, helping customers gain greater confidence that high-value LNG cargoes are sampled representatively before analysis.
ISO/IEC 17043 – Proficiency Testing
- 2011 – EffecTech developed the Global Gas and LNG Proficiency Testing Scheme (GGLNG) following the award of a worldwide contract with Shell Global Solutions, achieving ISO/IEC 17043 accreditation to support the scheme. 15 years on, ISO/IEC 17025 accredited LNG laboratories from around the world participate in GGLNG, extending well beyond the original Shell network.
- 2016 – EffecTech extended its ISO/IEC 17043 accreditation to include the Stack Emissions Testing Scheme (SEPTS), applying its proven expertise in proficiency testing to support the emissions testing industry.
ISO/IEC 17025 – Testing
- 1998 – EffecTech achieved accreditation for its Testing Laboratory against the NAMAS accreditation standard, which was later superseded by ISO/IEC 17025.
- This accreditation now covers the composition testing of gas samples, including natural gas, LNG and biomethane, as well as the analysis of fuel gases to support CO₂ emissions reporting under the UK ETS and EU ETS.
