About Shell Print E-mail

Shell makes a major contribution to the UK, not just through providing products and services to our customers, but also through employment, tax revenues and investment which boost the economy. We employ around 9,000 people directly in the UK.

Shell is a key provider of the energy that millions of people use for heating and powering the UK. We are operator for about 25% of the UK’s oil and gas supplies and produce about 16% of the nation’s petrol and diesel. We are probably best known to the public for our service stations and we have around 900 retail sites in the UK. Our Stanlow refinery near Ellesmere Port in Cheshire is at the heart of Britain’s oil and chemical industry, producing a range of transport fuels, including Shell V-Power, and chemicals for industry.

We believe that oil and gas will be integral to the global energy needs for economic development for many decades to come. Our role is to ensure that we extract and deliver them profitably and in environmentally and socially responsible ways. We seek a high standard of performance, maintaining a strong long-term and growing position in the competitive environments in which we choose to operate. We aim to work closely with our customers, our partners and policymakers to advance more efficient and sustainable use of energy and natural resources.

Our two main businesses are Shell U.K. Exploration and Production, an operating division of Shell U.K. Limited, and Shell U.K. Oil Products Limited. Each has its own board of directors and is a subsidiary of Shell Holdings (U.K.) Limited.
