South Hook LNG

Over the last 2 years, EffecTech have been working very closely with South Hook LNG in the design and implementation of
their gas metering system. EffecTech have been advising South Hook LNG by acting as consultants providing them with information and background on the measurement of gas entering and exiting the terminal, in particular with the network
entry requirements.

This has included:

  1. Specification of the state-of-the-art bespoke laboratory at the terminal
  2. Provision of high quality ISO 17025 calibration gases
  3. Validation (ISO 10723) and calibration of the gas chromatographs on the jetty used while the tanker off loads gas
  4. Validation (ISO 10723) and calibration of the gas quality metering system which includes measurements of :
  • Hydrocarbon composition
  • Nitrogen and carbon dioxide composition
  • Calorific value (Heating value)
  • Wobbe Index
  • Density
  • Realtive density
  • Compressibility
  • Hydrocarbon dewpoint
  • Sulphur and hydrogen sulphide content
  • Hydrogen content
  • Oxygen content
  • Moisture content

Without the extensive range of instrument validations provided by EffecTech, South Hook would not have been able to export gas into the UK’s gas transmission system.

In addition, EffecTech calibrated the instrumentation used on site to monitor the gas combusted at site and provided quantitative measurements of the carbon dioxide uncertainties which are required by the EU directive 2003/87/EC “Guidelines for the monitoring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions”.
